GreenMatter

This public-private network drives the development of biodiversity skills and transformation in South Africa. Working with, and for the sector, GreenMatter implements the 20-year National Biodiversity Human Capital Development Strategy (NBHCDS) that responds to the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP) and National Development Plan (NDP).

 GreenMatter develops the technicians, researchers, specialists and leaders responsible for cutting-edge biodiversity management and conservation across sectors. Through its core, a national partner network and online platforms, GreenMatter has influenced the development of over 17 000 emerging and current biodiversity leaders.

 In the last five years GreenMatter has conceptualised initiatives, mobilised resources and implemented more than 20 national projects. It has created the means for key players to collaborate, develop and provide much needed open-source biodiversity careers information. The GreenMatter Fellowship has developed a cohort of future biodiversity leaders and has enabled skill-aspiring biodiversity enviropreneurs to become job and opportunity creators. Workshops, toolkits and teacher development in the life sciences are among the ways GreenMatter develops capacity. It advocates for greater collaboration in support of Biodiversity Human Capital Development through the establishment of platforms such as the National Environmental Skills Summit (NESS).
