DST-NRF Centre of Excellence for Invasion Biology

The Centre for Invasion Biology (C•I•B) is a country-wide network of researchers with hubs at Stellenbosch University and the University of Pretoria. Our vision is to provide the scientific understanding required to reduce the rate and impact of biological invasions to improve the quality of life of all South Africans. The C•I•B undertakes a broad range of research, education, training and networking that focuses on understanding the ecosystem changes that are a consequence of biological invasions. We work in all biomes in South Africa, investigating how biological diversity is altered by invasive plants and animals, and the effects these have on the functioning of ecosystems and the services they deliver. Through our research, we are in a position to make scientific information available to assist policy makers and managers with rational decision-making options regarding invasive alien species.
