Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife (the KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Service) is a statutory body mandated to conserve the biodiversity of KwaZulu-Natal. This work is done primarily by the Biodiversity Conservation Operations branch, which manages a network of over 100 proclaimed Protected Areas covering 8% of KwaZulu-Natal. Outside of these areas the organisation deploys District and Community Conservation Officers to extend conservation coverage to the rest of the Province, Scientific and other specialist staff work both inside and outside of the Protected Areas to manage specific programmes and to provide technical information and advice.

To enable the public to visit and appreciate the wide variety of Protected Areas, the Commercial Operations branch provides 68 destinations and runs 42 visitor facilities able to accommodate 6200 visitor beds per night.
