Irvin & Johnson (I&J)

Irvin & Johnson (I&J) has long been active in conserving and protecting the environments in which it operates, in particular the marine environment and its precious resources. I&J is South Africa’s major fishing company and has a conservation ethic entrenched throughout the company. Marine pollution is rigorously controlled with its fleet of 24 trawlers returning its substantial non-biodegradable waste to shore for proper disposal. Crew incentives are in place to encourage adherence to the company’s environmental procedures.

I&J sponsors many diverse marine conservation projects, ranging from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism’s National Marine Week to providing food for the marine life at Cape Town’s Two Oceans Aquarium. All sponsorships are aimed at creating and influencing the general public’s awareness of the need to protect the country’s marine resources for future generations.
