Since 1998 IUCN-SA has worked to create unique solutions to development and conservation challenges in collaboration with experts and stakeholders from the private, public and non-profit sectors. Our programme aims to ensure that the goals of conservation and social development are mutually reinforcing.
These goals are brought together in our work on managing and restoring ecosystems, in our initiatives to support trade and create markets for biodiversity, and in promoting healthy and sustainable urban environments. All our interventions contribute to poverty alleviation and social equity in relation to the environment and, ultimately, to promoting effective environmental governance in South Africa.
Through our network of Members, Commissions and Secretariat, IUCN-SA supports an enabling environment for sustainable development, with particular emphasis on building a biodiversity economy.
