Kronendal Community Recycling Innitiative

The recycling depot is above the circle at the entrance to Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay on the Municipal Drop-Off site. There are 12 people, self- employed on a profit sharing basis, who collect recyclables from about 90 businesses and housing estates. They sort the recyclables for sale. A ?Recycling Swop Shop? is run weekly, to encourage people from the informal settlement, mostly children, to pick up recyclables and swop them for items donated by the wealthier citizens, thus improving the environment, and empowering the children to improve their lives by their own efforts.
