The Mike Woods Environmental Education Centre, set in an indigenous garden within the Helderberg Nature Reserve, is funded and run by a local NGO, The Friends of the Helderberg Nature Reserve. The Environmental Education Centre offers schools and youth groups an ideal outdoor hands-on experience in subjects relating to the natural environment and its conservation. It, therefore, supplements the curriculum and aims to aid the teacher in the education process.

An integral part of the centre is a well-equipped resource centre and library which assists scholars, students and teachers with projects and assignments. A wide variety of topical literature is available and for a quick reference a subject schedule is available on the website.

The Sugarbird Campsite is our overnight facility and is an extension of the EEC. This offers organised groups an ideal venue for weekend education and training programmes only.

In order to raise funds for the environmental education programmes, the Friends of the Helderberg have agreed that the Centre may be hired out to the public as a small conference centre under certain conditions and guidelines.
