Pick n Pay has since its inception in 1967 aimed to set an example of social and economic excellence, firmly embedded in a framework of ethical corporate governance. For Pick n Pay, sustainability is about enhancing our business through embedding sustainable practices in our core activities.
We have an approach that covers six sustainability focus areas, which are linked to our core business and our ability to create value for our stakeholders. As a leading food retailer in South Africa, growing concern around food security and the food system are critical to our business. Our ability to provide safe and nutritious food to our customers reaches the core of operations. Each of our sustainability focus areas helps us address food security challenges to create shared value, while contributing to making our business stronger and more adaptable in light of these challenges.
Partnerships are key to finding solutions to sustainability challenges. We actively engage with organisations from different parts of society. It is the belief of Pick n Pay that enterprise development must seek to quantify social and environmental value created across the supply chain, and that this approach should ultimately inform the broader business model for the Group.
Whether through social investment programmes or its commitment to consumer sovereignty, Pick n Pay has always conducted itself in a manner which is ethical, accountable and responsible and will continue to innovate and seek out new ways to make sure it remains the first choice of the consumer.
