Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment - North West Province

Environmental Services Chief Directorate exists to ensure effective and efficient regulation and management of the built and natural environment.

The Chief Directorate consists of the following Directorates:

• Biodiversity Management and Conservation - manages biodiversity utilization
• Environmental management and Protection- ensures quality and protection of the environment \Environmental Extension and Project Development- Provides advisory services and project development support
• Environmental Planning and Coordination- Facilitates inter-governmental coordination, manages environmental planning and supports environmental information management

Activities

There are quite a number of activities that each directorate performs to reach the strategic objectives above. The following are examples per directorate of the activities performed:

• Identify and map threatened and protected ecosystems and species,
• Issue environmental authorizations,
• Conduct environmental campaigns, and
• Manage environmental spatial planning, such as Environmental Management Frameworks.
