VACANCY: EWT Birds of Prey Programme Manager - 26 August 2016
Purpose of the Position:
The Endangered Wildlife Trust is one of the largest biodiversity conservation NGOs in southern Africa and is seeking to employ a Birds of Prey Programme Manager, to carry out work within the borders of South Africa.
The mission of the EWT’s Birds of Prey Programme is to action, support and coordinate conservation projects for nocturnal and diurnal raptors and vultures in southern Africa and to achieve measurable results through considered and informed implementation strategies.

Qualifications, experience and competencies required:
Minimum of a post-graduate qualification in conservation biology or a related, relevant field, and at least 5 years’ postgraduate experience in a conservation working environment.
A proven track record in applied conservation research, field work and project implementation.
Experience managing complex projects, staff, donor and stakeholder relationships, budgets and extensive networks.
Demonstrated ability in conceiving and developing new areas of work.
Experience in presenting results of conservation research to the public as well as publishing in peer-reviewed publications.
A high degree of self-motivation and pro-activity, excellent administrative skills, excellent organisation skills, and the proven ability to work under pressure.
The ability to develop strong relationships with landowners, the farming community, private sector, conservation/environmental organisations, governmental agencies, staff and volunteers.
Good knowledge about the threats facing birds of prey, and how these may be addressed.
Strong fundraising skills and the ability to develop a broad funding support base.
Excellent report writing skills for a variety of audiences including the general public, conservation practitioners and the scientific community.
Valid SA driver’s license and suitable driving experience.
A passion for conservation and our natural heritage.
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programmes, competency in GIS software packages will be a significant advantage.

Disciplined, innovative and energetic.
Excellent staff management skills.
Excellent communication and networking skills.
Fluency in at least English and Afrikaans.
The ability to work both independently and as part of team.
Self-motivated, disciplined and energetic.
Strong people skills and an approachable manner.
This position is based at the EWT’s Head Office in Johannesburg, Modderfontein.
